Additional Dremel 761-03 Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool Information

Its a rare human who actually enjoys clipping a dogs nails; and rarer still, the dog who enjoys it. Enter Dremels cordless groomer, a quiet, battery-powered rotary tool that gently grinds down your pets nails without cutting. We happen to know a particular hound named Sophie whos endured more than her share of cracked nails and bleeding nail beds, the result of the standard guillotine-type nail trimmers. Though she was a bit wary of the Dremel, she sniffed at it and decided it was harmless. Then we set it on the floor and turned it on. Sophie seemed concerned for a minute, but then lost interest. We let her get used to the sound of the Dremel for a few minutes, then got down to business. We expected her to cringe and pull away when we took paw in hand, for what usually follows is not pleasant for her. She submitted reluctantly at first to the Dremel, probably expecting the worst, but once we distracted her with a piece of rawhide, she forgot about the nail hubbub and let us carry on. The whole thing was quick and painless, which made a change for Sophie, and was actually kind of soothing for the humans, which definitely made a change for us. We followed the advice in the manual and alternated between two paws at a time, not keeping the abrasive on any nail for more than a couple of seconds, and we made sure each nail was cool before grinding it a second time. If we had a criticism, it would be to wish only that Dremel would include the -inch drum for larger dogs like Sophie as well as the smaller one. Other than that, its a tail-wagger.

What Customers Say About Dremel 761-03 Cordless Pet Nail Grooming Rotary Tool:

I tried the cheaper Dremel but it barely takes off any nail at all. The Dremel dos a poor job at grinding down nails. I think I will order a corded Peticure and be done with it. The Peticure's nail protection cover seemed to be a little bit of a hassle, but it actually worked very well - it helped position the sanding drum and let me apply more pressure to ramove more nail faster. It is hard to control and does not do much grinding. I previously had a Peticure and it worked very well until a bearing in the motor failed.

One timid cat chose to bite me versus sustain the torment on being held with this noisy product. I have both the Dremel and Pedi Paws in front of me, and the Dremel is louder.

The 5 accessories are just sanding disks.I do own the original Dremel tool and it is a wonderful tool for what is originally designed, but would not recommend any of these tools for a pet. Unless your pet is deaf or enjoy's outings with you on July 4th, I'd recommend old fashion files or nail clippers. As a side note, 4 AAA batteries are not included.

I originally purchased a "Pedi - Paws", which is very similar to the Dremel pet tool. Not the case.

After chasing the cats for days, I found the Pedi - Pawa useless (they were scared of the noise).

Then came the Dremel, claimed by some sales folks to have a "soothing" sound to animals.

I bought some small battery powered mixers from Ikea (sold as Produkt: the packaging suggests use as a milk frother) that were disappointingly underpowered and always left clumps of unmixed powder in the drink. Cleanup is a breeze - just operate the mixer in some clean water either in a cup or running from the tap. I've used shaker cups, which never worked well. I've used this setup for mixing in cups and glasses ranging in size from six ounces to twenty-two ounces and found it more than powerful enough. I did not buy this for trimming nails.

There's a host of other warnings to be aware of when using this tool - hopefully you get the idea.Again, it works great. The manual specifies alkaline batteries only. Been using it daily for a week with some average rechargeable batteries and it's been going strong. Dremel advises to wear eye protection and a dust mask when using. Add four NiMH rechargeable batteries and I get the smoothest drinks, mixed right in the glass. The Dremel has plenty of power for this use on the low setting using rechargeable batteries. The milk frother is not exactly a 'Dremel approved' attachment. Rather than use a tabletop mixer or a plug-in handheld mixer I considered hacking up my own using a battery Dremel as the driver.I purchased two here on Amazon at a great price and a collet kit (Dremel #4485) that would allow me to use the mixer wire from the broken frother. I don't suppose it's built for immersion in any liquid.

I bought this for mixing powdered protein drink mixes and it works great. It has no cords to deal with, no electrical outlet to be tethered to (as if I need to travel while mixing.)., practically dries itself after cleaning (just turn it on to fling off the water) and store it away nicely in a drawer until next time.Keep in mind this is not a use the manufacturer intended. I just don't use it for trimming nails. The motor failed on one after about six months of use. The high speed setting often causes spills so I compensate by reserving some water or milk until I'm done mixing, then top off.

This works more like a nail file, smoothing out the edges. And with 2 dogs (and a lot of nails) I just didn't have the desire to put so much time into it.

And still have time to spare. It is less time for me to drive to the groomers, get them clipped, drive home, and file them with the Dremel.

Oh, I was hoping I would be able to stop getting my dogs nail clipped with the purchase of this trimmer. But in order to grind down the nails enough to really shorten them, I was having to grind them for a long amount of time.

So, while I will continue using this -- it will be for to smooth the edges of their clipped nails. and sadly, no.

Which is a good thing, too.

Goes thru batteries way to fast. bought to do pets nails -- not as easy as states. Tool gets hot against nail too quick.
